Bluebirds 3-28-2012
Today the bluebird babies are starting to get feather sheaths on their wings and their wings are becoming darker. Their eyes are also starting to slit open. They are also beginning to cheep! (you can hear this in the video)

Bluebirds 3-27-2012
Here is my bluebird watching dog. She likes to sit where I do not want her to sit lol. We're trying not to disturb the parents and babies too much.
Hi little babies!! If you notice the older baby on the right is starting to open his/her eyes.

Bluebirds 3-25-2012
Well the babies seem to be doing well! They are getting fed often by the male and the female parents. The female still sits on them to regulate their temperature. They are getting a little bigger and a little more fuzzy.
Here is the female sitting in the trees while I took some pictures of our cherry blossom tree.

Bluebird Baby #2
This morning we had to get up really early, so I was lucky enough to catch the second baby hatching. Don't get too excited, it hatched under the mother bird so you can't see it actually hatching. I was really hoping to be able to see it though. You can see the mama pulling the egg pieces out of the nest and eating the egg shell for some extra calcium. She also tossed some out of the box I noticed when I went out there.
Here are some pics I took from outside the box. The don't make any sounds yet.

We have a baby!!!
What a surprise to wake up to!! Yesterday there were 2 cute little blue eggs, and today there is a naked little bluebird! He/she has a halo of feathers around it's head and looks quite funny! The baby's eyes are still closed and will remain closed until day 5 to 8. It has coral pink skin and little gray fuzz feathers. The baby's neck is so skinny and it is amazing that it can pick it's own head up!
I missed hatching this morning so I don't know if the egg hatches under the mother bird or if you can see it happen. I had my tape set on the wrong speed so it didn't record as long as I would have liked. I will make sure to try and catch the second egg hatching!
Here are some videos of the first baby!
Here are some pics of the new baby. I snuck out and took while the parents were gathering bugs.

EGG WATCH!!!
Well I am officially on EGG WATCH! *Cue dramatic music* The eggs should be hatching any day now. I am watching the bluebird cam 24-7! Well not quite, I am and recording when I am not home & during the night, I want to catch the eggs hatching so badly! I can't wait!
Here is mama peeking out and watching what is happening outside of her house.
Here is another pic of the bluebird eggs! They should be hatching any day now! Notice the small blue feather in the nest? How cute!!
Here is mama checking me out while I was outside.
She didn't like that Snoopy was nearby.
Yep! Eggs are still there!
The male sitting in the tree. I thought these were really pretty of him with the new green leaves in the background.
**For those who may be concerned, I do not disturb the bluebirds while they are in the nesting box, I wait for them to fly off on their own. Bluebirds and other songbirds do not have a good sense of smell, so me touching the box to take pics will not cause them to abandon the eggs or babies. I did move Snoopy away from the side of the yard with the nest box after it seemed to be making the birds worried. I will also be fencing off the side with the bluebird fledglings to keep them safe from the dog as well. :)

This is also the book light I am using to take pics of the eggs. It fits nicely in the top and is pretty bright. You can see the bird cam in the top of the box too!
